Music Icons: Male inspirations
In this gender-fluid world of ours, I find that inspiration can be taken from almost anything and anyone. For the past year, I’ve taken a lot of my wardrobe inspirations from male musicians. To me it is the way they accessorize, mix and match, and how their wardrobe reflects their work. This post has been quite a challenge because I’ve never used fashion terms in my writing as intensely as this before. It took some research, editing, and re-editing but it was all definitely worth it. Remember, I’m no fashion expert, I’m just a girl who loves talking about fashion.
Harry Styles
I think Mr Styles should definitely take credit for all those 70s throwback trousers in my closet. I have been trying to low-key steal his style from his 1-D days, with his long hair, white t-shirt and Chelsea boot days. Not to mention, every single one of his glittery, plaid, and flowery ensemble of costumes has got me in utter awe. I love his bravery to rock any and almost every print, going against social stigma. His experimentation with the color pink and hues of soft pastels really shows his sensitive side as a songwriter, while giving it an edge with his ring collection. Also, his love of frills really shows that he’s very bold in his choices and truly owns what he wears. With him, it’s basically not what you wear, but how you wear it.

All time favorite Harry Styles outfits
Paul Klein (LANY)
His California cool vibe and long, curly locks has taken its way into being a part of my world.
Paul’s combo of Cuban Collar Shirts and street wear makes it chic without trying to look too over the top.
The band’s ultra laid-back sound really shows Paul’s love of sporty skater boy look mixed in with laid-back, California beach character. The way he accessorize with necklaces, chains, rings and earrings gives his overall look a quite soft touch. I basically feel like Paul is how I would be as a guy, one of those somewhat sporty and sensitive ones. Also, can we please give more credit to his naturally highlighted curls on his beautiful head of his. This guy is just goals, he truly is.

John Lennon
As a hippie at heart, John Lennon’s style was definitely for-sure a style choice for me, throwing back to my high school hippie phase. Those round glasses, long hair, and patterned suits seriously inspired me to experiment with patterns and funky eyewear, which I hugely strayed away from before. Psychedelic hippie meets musician chic is what Lennon’s all about and his fashion sense still influences me to this day. His double-denim 70s look is definitely a classic that I always for on a somewhat down, depressing day, it really adds a kind of tomboy edginess to my mood, mixed in with some gold jewelry for a feminine touch. Also, those 70s corduroys, stripes, and also his hat collection is to die for, and I have never been so happy that they’ve been on trend once again.

Tom Odell
Tom Odell’s eccentric, old-English meets London street-chic look is certainly my fall/winter type of style choice. I think no matter what your style or gender, you can never go wrong with warm-toned knitted sweaters, a dark trench coat, and boots. Tom’s music and style is what I would describe as rainy day comfort. A rainy day, a mug of coffee, a book, and Tom Odell in the background, complete with your favorite knitted sweater. Trench coats, swayed bomber jackets, and also can we applaud the way he never wears trainers? Aside from the fact that he has this complete doesn’t try too hard British style, I feel that he has this very cozy, laid-back look that still has a classiness and style to it, which is quite easy to try and replicate.

Matt Healy (The 1975)
Matt’s style definitely screams The 1975; leather jacket, white t-shirt, basically the Kooks English edginess meets Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, and the Arctic Monkeys. His experimentation in his clothing really reflects his music, which is basically pop, jazz sounds, and punk-rock rawness combined in one. The lyrical tone of The1975 can be picked up from Matt’s edginess in his love for leather and dark tones, while softening it with flowy button down shirts from time to time. Eccentricity being the root of the band, Matt’s vision of his music is mastered through various forms of art, including fashion. With each of their albums, there’s a specific tone and style that’s anything but ordinary. From The 1975’s debut album basically holding the mindset of an emotional teenager stuck in a rut, to their second album portraying a more mature, softer side of them with heartbreak anthems and dance-ballad tunes portrayed in pink and white tones, and their soon to be released album holds a more clean, modern feel to it withe their recent videos consisting of Matt in different hair colors in their classic black and white suits. Also the king of mastering ripped jeans with basically anything? Matt Healy.
